The Challenge
Learning Dynamics Preschool is an academic preschool located in Orem, Utah that has been in business for 17 years. The 288 children who currently attend Learning Dynamics Preschool come from families with varied economic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds, and which vary greatly in their commitment to educational programs at home.
Learning Dynamics Preschool offers a program for three-year-olds that is lightly academic, and a program for four-year-olds that is more academic with the emphasis being on teaching young children how to read phonetically. All preschool personnel are trained teachers.
The Solution
In the school year 2000-2001 (September-May), Learning Dynamics unilaterally used the Frontline Phonics reading program with its four-year-old classes (188 students). This program was highly successful and the children responded extremely well. After five weeks of using Frontline Phonics, 72 percent of the children were reading in the Frontline Phonics books. This was a remarkable improvement over other programs that have been used in the past by Learning Dynamics. The ease with which the students grasped the blending and reading concepts made this program the easiest and most successful program used at the preschool.
